 Lunch Buddy

Greetings from Lewis and Clark Elementary School!

I’m excited to tell you about a program that I feel makes a tremendous difference in the lives of kids at our school. It is called the Lunch Buddy Program. This program has been pairing business leaders and community members with students for weekly lunches for the past 13 years.

Just one hour a week is such a small investment of time for such a big result! “I feel happy when I see him,” writes one young lunch buddy. “We can play games in the library or go to the computer lab together,” writes another.

The adults who have volunteered their time and talents are equally enthusiastic: “It’s obvious the staff are devoted to the children,” wrote Tom McNair,  “also the children are a joy to be around. I like feeling that I am making a difference in a child’s life.” Lisa DeAngelis says “I enjoy getting to know my lunch buddy and watching her change over the year. Just being with them once a week helps them gain so much confidence. It’s the easiest and most rewarding volunteer program I participate in!” Karen Lunt adds “I enjoy a chance to be with youth and make a difference along with a chance to encourage and be a friend to someone who needs you.”

Who are these adults who spend an hour a week eating school lunches, reading, helping with homework, and playing games with elementary school children? We’ve had business owners, doctors, lawyers and lawmakers, entrepreneurs, service club members and folks who just love being around kids! We’d love to have YOU too.
